WAHACA, the Mexican street-food restaurant chain, are launching group feasting menus that add a Mexican twist to Christmas food. These menus radically reject the blandness of some elements of British Christmas food, like Turkey and Brussel sprouts, and seek to provide more exciting alternatives.

The primary aim of the principal architect behind these sharing menus, co-founder and Masterchef winner, Thomasina Miers, is to bring families and friends together in the spirit of sharing and socialising that is central to the festive period.
The first menu is titled The Rebellion Banquet. As well as some street-food starters, including the classic Mexican guacamole and tortilla chips and smoked salmon tostadas, the main event is make your own tacos feasting boards where guests can choose from a few seasonal options. Some examples include confit British duck legs in a Veracruzan sale, carrot and celeriac tinga in a smoky tomato sauce and roasted winter vegetables with white sesame pippan. Dessert consists of churros with chocolate dippy sauce.

The second menu is the called The Revolutionist’s Feast. This is the lighter of the menus since it features only a wide selection of street food plates to share – including roasted Serrano chillies, sautéed onions and feta quesadillas, slow-cooked pork pibil tacos, wild-mushroom and cheese empanadas and smoky cauliflower cheese.

To complement the Christmas feasting menus, and to get visitors in a celebratory festive mood, a selection of shaken seasonal margaritas and cocktails are available alongside the normal extensive drinks menu.
