LWFM SS20: Münn

LET Korean fashion house Münn transport you to another world with their SS20 collection. Launched in 2013, Münn has gradually been making a name for itself internationally, bringing in admirers from across the globe for its minimalism and emotionally honest vision. Founder and designer Hyun-min Han imbues a sense of futurism into his clothes, known for his approach of combining elements of sportswear with tailoring. It’s a difficult pairing to get right – but Han does it with justice.

Pushing the boundaries of both styles, in his newest collection Han explores a new realm for the fashion house, delving into a place of mystery, fairy-tale and goth. A dark twist on  the conventional, Han presents layers of textures, from tulle, chiffon, and leather.  Throughout the collection, head-ware is particularly striking. Straw hats with embellishments, caps and headbands all make an appearance. Han proves he is a master of small details – accessories definitely do not take the back seat in this collection.

There are some very feminine elements to the collection – even the silhouettes of the tailored jackets resemble pieces found in women wear collections, and trench coats are belted to cinch in the waist. The prints are extremely effeminate, combinations of different styles of florals, in addition to the use of tulle fabrics, ruching and jewellery. Throughout, the  colour palette is made up of mostly monochrome tones, fitting well with the ethereal and other-worldly theme.

Some looks stand out in the collection, in particular the roped almost bondage-like pieces, which push the expectations of experimental street-wear. However, the most successful pieces were the tailored looks. A reinvention of classic styling,, Han splices these pieces with contrasting fabrics, prints, and cropped silhouettes.
