Glass discovers a surprisingly modern hotel in a classic Italian setting at Villa Eden

From our travel editor

Travel plans have been on pause for long enough. Now the British government has announced a list of countries that tourists can visit without quarantine upon return to the UK, the Glass travel team are delighted to resume the publication of our travel features.

On the plus side, this break from our usual hectic pace of life has given us the chance to slow down and live in the moment which makes the opportunity of a well-deserved holiday seem even more exciting than ever before.

We are guessing that our travels in the future will be about embarking on longer, immersive experiences where we can fully absorb each destination that we visit.

Let’s start with a review of a stay at the Villa Eden in Italy, located on the western shore of the magical Lake Garda.

Happy planning. And in the meantime, stay safe and stay inspired.

VILLA Eden is an uber luxurious resort perched amongst the verdant hills overlooking the shoreline of Gardone Riviera, a town on the southern shores of Italy’s Lake Garda.

The impressive compound of Villa Eden stands out royally amongst the traditional properties in the vicinity, with its imposing blue and turquoise glass facade clubhouse, surrounded by seven smart, individually designed four and five-bedroomed villas spread across the 78-hectare estate – designed by some of the world’s finest modern-day architects including Richard Meier, David Chipperfield and Marc Mark.

The two helipads on either side of wrought iron entrance gates give a nod to the calibre of Villa Eden’s guest list.

Italian architect Matteo Thun designed the Villa Eden ultra modern clubhouse which comprises only nine spacious rooms and suites, each with a private balcony offering views across the sprawling grounds, with Lake Garda peeking through the gaps between the towering cypress trees.

Clubhouse amenities include the Villa Eden SPA, comprising a couple of slick treatment rooms, spacious sauna, steam bath and a gym. A cleverly designed swimming pool area, partly covered for those that want some shade, is only a few steps away from each guest room.

The Villa Eden Restaurant’s Executive Chef Christoph Stiglitz (of Nobu Park Lane, London fame) focuses on creating delicious hearty Italian cuisine using locally sourced ingredients, with each dish paired with curated wine selection. For dining in Gardone Riviera, Villa Eden offers a complimentary chauffeur service which is particularly recommended for the steep ascent returning to the estate.

Villa Eden is the ideal Lake Garda retreat for those preferring an intimate and relaxing vacation experience. Its compact size, tranquil surroundings and laid-back atmosphere create the perfect environment for those seeking a home-away-from-home holiday.
