Glass takes in the sights and flavours of New York at Gansevoort Meatpacking

GANSEVOORT Meatpacking is an elegant hotel perfectly placed for exploring one of Manhattan’s most glamorous neighbourhoods, with its high-end designer clothing stores and trendy restaurants and clubs. The Whitney Museum of American Art and Chelsea Market are also a short stroll away.

The hotel overlooks the Hudson River and boasts 360 degree views of the city, including Little Island, a new public park located on the Hudson River where New Yorkers and visitors can experience nature and art in a unique urban oasis.

Freshly renovated, Gansevoort Meatpacking mixes retro elegance with industrial details and contemporary good taste. From the outside, the building is understated but inside it is bursting with energy. The lounge and breakfast area feature well stocked bookshelves and art pieces by Banksy, Richard Hambleton and Hassan Hajjaj.

The Gansevoort Rooftop Pool

Rooms are spacious with bright lights, large mirrors and sweeping views. The décor is contemporary and bold – the walls reflect the grey-blue shade of the Hudson while the beds have huge walnut headboards. There are also yoga mats and Lululemon studio mirrors for in-room fitness classes. The bathrooms are particularly attractive, featuring white, modern tiling, beautiful lighting and Alchemist bath products.

The Chester Bar

The hotel boasts a 24 hour-gym that is small but well equipped with weights, treadmills, bikes, steppers and boxing equipment. The Gansevoort Rooftop, with its heated pool, is the place to relax in. The setting is chic and summery – think wooden decks, cosy sofas and greenery.

The bar offers a staggering range of spirits, beers and wines as well as signature cocktails. Not to be missed is the new sushi restaurant Saishin by Kissaki, whose Michelin star-trained sushi chef guides guests through an interactive and personalised experience – complete with a sunset view of the river.
