Earlier this year, the World Photography Organisation and Montgomery announced that the first international art fair dedicated to photography in China will launch this autumn. The inaugural edition of Photo Shanghai will take place from 5 to 7 September at the landmark Shanghai Exhibition Centre, and hopes to establish itself as the premier professional and international platform for fine art photography in the Asia-Pacific region.
Given the boom of Asian contemporary art in recent decades, the fair is a natural development of the Asian art market, and marks the region’s increased interest in photography. Talks by world renowned curators, collectors, collectors, dealers, photographers will also be held during the fair.
Some of the world’s renowned photography galleries will be represented at the fair, including CAMERA WORK, (Berlin), Fahey / Klein Gallery (Los Angeles), ShanghART (Shanghai), Peking Fine Arts (Beijing), Flowers (London), and A. Galerie (Paris). Works on display include photographs by Araki, Nick Brandt, René Burri, Edward Burtynsky, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Patrick Demarchelier, Yang Fudong, André Kertész, Peter Lindbergh, Vivian Maier, Steve McCurry, Daido Moriyama, Martin Parr, Robert Polidori, Sebastião Salgado, Josef Sudek, and Edward Weston.
