THE RABBIT-hole of exploring the connection between fashion and art is one that Creative Director Jonathan Anderson loves going down. Not shy of blurring the lines between design and art, the Irish designer spends his days working in fashion and free time delving into the art world where he has become a trustee of London’s Victoria & Albert museum.
Continuing to put both his passions together, JW Anderson announces the launch of limited-edition blankets.
Available to pre-order now, the six blankets reflect a collaboration between the British fashion brand and Dame Magdalene Odundo DBE and Shawanda Corbett – both artists showcasing three works in even woven or hand-knit versions.
JW Anderson x Magdalene Odundo
Dame Magdalene Anyango Namakhiya Odundo DBE, a Kenya-born potter and artist is widely recognised for her vessels that are reminiscent of the human body and allude to femininity. Residing in Surrey, her work is featured in close to 50 international museums and touched many, especially Anderson, who met her in 2017 when curating an exhibition titled Disobedient Bodies.
JW Anderson x Shawanda Corbett
The other collaborator, New York-born Shawanda Corbett, known for her ceramics and performance art, left an impression on Anderson in June 2020 – the period when the UK had relaxed their restrictions and the designer was able to enjoy the experience of going to a gallery once again.
The interdisciplinary nature of her practice inspired by Anderson and made her the right other half of the blanket collaboration.
