HELD at the DiscoveryLAB in the BFC Show Space, Xiao Li’s AW18 collection showed her classic, innovative style of being fun and bold whilst pushing the boundaries of knitwear and silicone. This collection focuses on electric blue and baby pink pieces with maroon and grey accents and silhouettes which is both feminine and sporty. Her garments use contemporary techniques such as moulded silicone pieces, and silicone dipping to create unique looks and textures.
The collection had hints of the 1970s LA skate scene with fun and amusing patterns of skaters and LA road sign graphic slogans saying “car wash” and “low daily rate”. This pattern was the staple piece in the collection, used for multiple pieces in the same material, including an oversized coat, a dress, trousers and a two-piece.
From the outset, it could be seen that the pieces were oversized, especially the coats which were also puffy. The collection also featured sheer net silhouetting underneath coats and to cover the neck, arms and legs to add more colour to the look and produce the finished look. Many of the looks have similar accents with the same belts and jewellery being used in an assortment of colours.
As in previous seasons, Li has not disappointed as she continues to delight because of her original style.
