THERE are few brands that can truly take credit for aiding the shift in representation, diversity and inclusion in fashion, but London-based gender non-specific label Art School can. Over the past four-and-a-half years, the brand has continued to use its platform to help voices be heard and to let real people share their creativity. For their AW21 collection, entitled Ascension, creative director Eden Loweth is embarking on his first collection on his own.

Describing it as “a dystopian new view” on the Art School world, Loweth explains that he has spent the past half a year rebuilding the foundation of the brand. Starting with the basics and returning to the values that started this label, bias cut returns to ensure that whomever the wearer is, the pieces still fit.

Draped dresses made from knitwear that sparkles, smock coats and the introduction of the brand’s first bag all come together to create a genderless collection quite literally made for all. A noteworthy mention is Noel Stewart’s collaboration this season with the millinery.

The AW21 Art School collection was created as a message of hope. Beginning with purely dark tones and transitioning into the purgatory of red and finally coming out the end with the finale looks made from white, it is a symbol that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
During a time where there is both hope and dread, Loweth has created a collection we can all learn from.
