LFW AW21: Preen By Thornton Bregazzi

BEING locked down at home hasn’t stopped Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi from letting their imagination run wild.

While watching the original 1975 Grey Gardens – a fantastically-bizarre documentary that follows the everyday lives of Jackie Kennedy’s eccentric aunt and first cousin – the husband-and-wife team became hooked on the idea of dressing up at home with nowhere to go.

Thus, their lockdown experience and love of style became the core of their latest AW21 collection for their much-loved homegrown label, Preen By Thornton Bregazzi.

Presented as part of London’s first-ever digital-only Fashion Week, the collection was defined by a need for safety and security, with a good measure of the brand’s trademark theatrics thrown in.

The lookbook began with soft cable knits and billowing coats – the latter making the perfect cosy hideaway to envelope yourself. Relaxed lounge dresses followed, some in simple monochrome, others taking a maximalist approach with Preen’s signature floral printing.

Elements of the Preen Home line were effortlessly incorporated in the line-up, taking the shape of warm, quilted scarves and wraps. Sustainability was also emphasised, with the use of recycled materials and deadstock throughout.

The collection may have been titled Unhinged, but this latest offering felt just as dreamy and clear-cut as ever. “Even if you don’t go out,” said the duo, “you can go out in your mind.”
