LFW SS15: Hema Kaul
In an extravagant display of femininity, Hema Kaul showcased her “La vie en rose ─ life is pink” collection yesterday.
Using appliqué flowers embroidered onto the bodice and a printed floral design in a spectrum of pinks, Kaul conveyed typical Spring/Summer fashion. Pastel colours juxtaposed against metallics created a glamorous edge that was a combination of classic vintage meets tropical holiday. Sheer fabric fell around the legs and in movement, created a haze-like appearance that in addition with sequins, formed an enchanting ensemble.
With empire line silhouettes and cinched in waists, Kaul put a spin on a retro style; embodying the traditional woman. While shorter cut-out and body-con pieces represented the modern female. From structured crop tops to asymmetrical skirts the collection focused on the fit and flare of each garment whilst the draping fabric romanticised harsh edges.
Lace and sateen added a delicate subtleness to an overpowering statement of femininity. Lengths varied from short minis, to long floor length gowns, showing Kaul’s versatility within Spring/Summer. Hair was big and backcombed, yet another nod to retro style, while makeup was filled with shimmer and added fuchsia lipstick.
Kaul dazzled the audience with her portrayal of beauty and elegance. Influenced by vintage styling and global fabric and design, she has conceived a collection that epitomizes female resplendence. Channelling the exotic, “La vie en rose” was an uplifting show with a twist of Hollywood glamour.
