HUSSAIN Chalayan stuns us again with his SS20 collection presented at Sadler’s Wells at London Fashion Week. Drawing his inspiration from different cultures and their effects on each other the designer showcases the perfect mix of the two in his runway show.
The collection embodies the comfort and functionality of the western culture and craftsmanship and refinement of the Japanese culture. It features a stunning deconstructed blazer with shoulder details styled with below-the-knee skirt.
Modern minimalist silhouettes prevailed the runway harmonised by flowing silks and cotton to balance out the architectural structure that gives the body an illusion of the dexterity of a dancer. The pleated origami-inspired garments were made using silver fabric with blue flower print, that brought a fresh look on the designer’s inspiration of mid-20th-century Western occupation of Asia.
The collection features many variations of classic and very well familiar pieces, such as a white shirt, a suit, and even a little black dress. The re-imagined contemporary staples were paired up with roman- style sandals and string hats.
