TAKING place at the Royal Academy, as the lights dimmed the audience was taken on an eco-alpine journey. With models left, right and centre, the British brand Oliver Spencer gave its spectators (with plenty of famous faces) a lesson in menswear where we could get up close and personal and swoon over the UK-sourced eco-wools of his AW19 collection.
The journey begun with the sharply tailored overcoats, a brand’s signature. However, adding in a touch of alpine by lacing the shoes with brightly coloured hiking laces. Utilitarian bomber jackets in beige and rich jewel-colours were paired with velvet trousers further taking us on that alpine journey.
Shirts were covered in a patchwork of stripes, oversized and worn with high-waisted velvet trousers. The star of the show were the suits, and not one of the many celeb-models to climb the stairs. Classic plaid wool suits made an appearance, alongside a more updated deep green double-breasted velvet rendition. Giving the suit a well-needed updated, Spencer swapped out the blazer for a moss-green bomber pairing it with trousers in the same shade of green. Showing the audience what eco-green suits look like in 2019. Lesson learned.
Oliver Spencer added a final touch of class by dedicated the show to the legendary Joe Caseley-Hayford who passed away earlier this month after battling cancer for three years.
According to Oliver Spencer 2019 is the year of slow fashion, but here at Glass we think it’s the year of Oliver Spencer.
