Louis Vuitton launches 2054 collection

FOR THE second instalment of the Louis Vuitton 2054 collection, Artistic Director Virgil Abloh takes innovation in functional fashion to a new level. This line, which debuted in 2019, combines luxury with technology, fusing urban attire into the traditional nature of the French luxury fashion house. This season, the 2054 collection, part of the pre-spring-summer 2021 line, delves into producing clothes adaptable to different climates using methods usually associated with skiwear.

Focusing on hyper-materiality, the clothes are specifically designed with the aim of being able to acclimatise to the changing weather – so from temperature drops to heatwaves. The nylon used has a multifaceted texture alluding to a futuristic style – green and black prints reference the night sky, while the multi-coloured colour palette alludes to infrared effects of heat vision. The perfect combination of extreme sports and luxury!

Padded jackets and trousers with water repellent technology infused into the fabric make the perfect everyday look for city workers. An iridescent shell tracksuit with a matching puffer jacket and padded t-shirt are juxtaposed with leather parka overcoats that have a 3D printed pattern on it.

A highlight of the collection is the multitude of zippers on the jackets which enable the wearer to transform the jacket into what is needed for his environment.

The second part of the 2054 collection debuts a new technical black runner trainer with reflective edges and brightly coloured inserts. The 2054 LV logo and the trompe l’oeil classic monogram make the shoe identifiable – a common feature in Abloh’s clothes for the brand.

For those wondering where the name 2054 stems from, it is inspired by the year Louis Vuitton was launched, 1854. Therefore, the name pays homage to the up-coming 200th anniversary of the brand.
