A LOVE LETTER to leather, Coach 1941 SS20 for NYFW was an open-air affair, and models were dressed for the occasion.
Leather coats, whether trench or bomber, were paired with leather skirts and trousers. The pieces were generally loose fitting and casual, designed for a day in New York and a few evening drinks in a bar with friends.
Creative director Stuart Vevers took a ‘70s approach to the new season, with pop art style portraits of the decades’ icons, David Bowie and Barbara Streisand, on tank tops. The spirit of the ‘70s was perpetuated by pops of bright colour in clashing kitsch patterns. Red tones, ranging from fuchsia pink to rust, were another key feature of the collection, as well as greens and yellows. Colour blocking was used to maximise a striking effect.
Accessories gave the looks a tomboy feel, with thick soled sandals and trainers and baker boy caps. Silk scarves were nonchalantly flung around necks and belts were left untucked, hanging to the knee, contributing to a relaxed summer holiday feel.
