NOT ONLY known for its attitude driven aesthetic, Orb logo and use of tartan, Vivienne Westwood‘s corsets made her synonymous for adding a touch of sex appeal to the punk look. Specially curating an immersive exhibition to focus on this ever-evolving staple of the British brand’s design language, Vivienne Westwood Corsets – 1987 to Present Day will open it’s doors in the London flagship store from the 8th May 2023 for the duration of Craft Week.
Examining the corsets transition from formally being known as a piece of underwear to finding itself on display in Vivienne Westwood collections, the exhibition traces its rebranding from 1987 to its latest show, while also uncovering the items intrinsic links to historical costume and culture – the original source of inspiration.
The retrospect will feature some of Westwood’s most recognisable renditions of the corset, showcasing the most pivotal looks alongside Andreas Kronthaler’s more recent versions, presenting the continual influence of this garment and its unwavering position in the repertoire of the House’s steadfast offerings.
Alongside this exhibit, a limited-edition jewellery collection will be available to purchase mirroring the same corset focus. Centred around a 3D charm of the Westwood Portrait corset, which made its debut in the Harris Tweed AW1987/88 collection finding itself quickly reimagined in gold the following year, becoming the foundation of what led to this pendant.
Launching as something you can add to a necklace or bracelet on either a pearl or gold plated chain, the charm comes with matching clip-on earrings to help you create your own ode to the corset.
