The future home of the Waldorf Astoria, Admiralty Arch
By beating 11 other luxury hotel brands to secure the building from current owners Prime Investors Inc, Waldorf Astoria have bought an iconic peace of British history. Commissioned by Edward VII in memory of Queen Victoria, Admiralty Arch has gone through many incarnations since its completion in 1901, having served as an official residence of the First Sea Lords, a wartime intelligence centre, a Royal Navy outpost and centre for the Cabinet. Illustrious former residents include Winston Churchill in his role as First Sea Lord of the Admiralty and James Bond author, Ian Fleming.
Guests will not only be sleeping in a history imbued atmosphere, but can also enjoy the 21st century pleasures of a state-of-the-art spa, three world-class restaurants and a rooftop bar boasting stunning views of the London skyline. With a design team led by Micheal Blair and David Mlinaric, who between them have restored the The Ritz, The Connaught and the Royal Opera House, the hotel promises to marry tradition with innovation, allowing guests to revel in the splendour of history without sacrificing the latest luxuries.
