Walk on the Wild Side: Balmain Menswear AW 2014

Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing has brought a fresh, rocker look to the French brand in his nearly three years as Creative Director. His Autumn/Winter 2014 menswear is no exception, bringing a tribal flair to the brand’s signature military styling. This collection incorporates animal prints on boots and varsity jackets, worn with almost harem-style drop-crotch cargo pants. The overall palette is dark highlighted by olive greens and occasional gilt threading, seen in a fitted, zippered top.

A variety of jackets include some new proportions, including a blouson jacket in a gorgeous soft leather, a chunky corduroy safari jacket and several shawl-collared single- and double-breasted sports jackets with the edgy Balmain military styling, only perhaps more subtle. It was a cool, new take on safari, one no doubt perfectly complementary to the well-travelled life of Rousteing’s celebrity clientele.
