LFW SS15: J.W. Anderson

Anderson’s SS15 collection with overwhelming modern influences had us hooked from the beginning. Showcasing typical trends in contrast to bold statement pieces, the collection was a mixture of safe and brave.

Transforming a summer staple, Anderson designed an oversized black sun hat which hung loosely, giving the appearance of a samurai helmet. Continuing with the oriental theme, there were large obis worn around the waist and structurally designed garments reminiscent of Asian military wear. While folded dresses gave the illusion of origami in an ode to the east. Anderson also brought in a nautical theme, with models supporting boat shoes combined with navy and white ensembles and quirky oversized buttons matched with rope design.

The collection focused on the structure of each garment, accentuating the female form in an almost futuristic appearance. Asymmetrical design was used amongst statement pieces to convey a truly modern show. There was a masculine meets feminine vibe as he brought in long white shirts juxtaposed against fitted dresses.

Leather was a prominent feature, ranging from long sleeved gloves to matching separates. Layered up and head to toe, Anderson did not use it sparingly, creating full outfits that shrouded the models bodies, revealing bare midriffs. Many designs included the ever so popular crop top, with Anderson designing innovative skirt suits that gave a shrunken appearance.

He used a neutral palette, differing from traditional S/S colours and opted for monochrome with subtle hints of boldness. Occasionally there was a flash of brightness, from salmon to burnt orange but the collection mostly stayed consistent.
