The Mandrake announces new artists-in-residency: Studio Prokopiou & Hungry

THE MANDRAKE Hotel has announced that collaborative art practice Studio Prokopiou and interdisciplinary artist Hungry will be artists-in-residency across a three-day period in April. Known as a sanctuary for art and creativity, the hotel has previously hosted artists such as sculptor Bushra Fakhoury and legendary tattooist, Mark Mahoney. In early April, the artists will explore the themes of the impermanence of beauty by creating three tableaus inspired by the decadent hotel.

Studio Prokopiou is a collaborative fine art and photography art practice set up by Philip Prokopiou and Panagiotis Poimenidis in 2014. The duo’s work primarily focuses on queer identity, self-invention and gender identity. They have created fashion editorials for magazines including Wonderland and Judas, and their work has been exhibited internationally. The pair’s muse, Hungry, is a multi-talented drag artist that creates extravagant looks, giving their audiences a glimpse of an alternative reality, where the human body is forced to adapt to new environments.
