MFWM SS20: Fendi

GARDENING was at the heart of Fendi’s Spring-Summer 2020 show presented earlier at the Milan Fashion Week Men’s. Highly functional and luxurious at the same time, the collection was dedicated to the great outdoors and the importance of utility of clothing in our modern lives.

The neoclassical Villa Reale in the heart of Milan was transformed into a runway, where models proudly walked down dressed in olive-tinted raincoats, hunter jackets, multi-pocketed shirts and textured cardigans. The earthy palette, reflective of this nature-themed collection, was reinforced by splashes of denim, brushed suede and detailed floral prints. Fendi proudly introduced a new range of gardening accessories – wool gardening gloves and patterned hedge shears, a bag in the shape of watering can, embellished by the signature striped Pequin pattern, and bucket hats ornamented with the brand’s logo.

The nature-inspired prints in the collection come from the beautiful collaboration of the House with Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. The director of Call Me By Your Name was named guest artist for Fendi’s SS20, guiding the artistic choices in the show. Another collaboration was with the Japanese heritage footwear brand Moonstar, which helped Fendi develop the rubber shoes, a perfect accessory for a gardener inside every man.

Glass particularly remarked the ease and the flow of the collection, different from the other shows of this fashion month. While emphasising utility and connection with the outdoors, it beautifully showcased the sartorial expertise of the fashion House, introducing a new kind of luxury to SS20 season.
