LAST September, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri took us to church with the Dior SS21 collection. The clothes reflected the new world we are living in, accentuated hips were swapped with loose-fitting silhouettes and heels were exchanged for sandals – a true sign of the times.
Though the collection traded couture for comfort, in true Dior style, the savoir-faire of the looks and craftsmanship of the detailing and accessories made sure we understood that the brand wasn’t going to stray too far from the usual beauty her clients are used to.
Dior SS21 Campaign
The campaign, inspired by Michelangelo Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro, the use of bold contrasts within compositions, aims to highlight the women with a heavenly glow, creating a mystery intended to be solved by the viewer. Shades of blue, red and gold thread themselves around the models creating images of a modern renaissance – quite topical if you delve into it deeper. Taken by Elina Kechicheva, paisley motifs and florals embroidered into the collection become their own characters in the images as they take on the role of femininity.
Dior SS21 Campaign
We may have been taken to church but we have now entered a museum with this campaign. Deserving a place on the walls of an art institution, the Dior campaign oozes into all streams of creativity, showcasing not just the collection but the themes that inspired and brought to life the world of Dior.
