Holly Fulton is the archetypal LFW designer her designs practically the stuff of street style dreams, so crisp, so full of character and so bang on London-centric trend. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, so this season Fulton made efforts to follow the winning formula that saw a handful of guests wearing pieces from her AW14 collection already. Sometimes it feels cheesy when guests wear a designer’s previous collection to the unveiling of their newest, but this was just plain chic.
Holly Fulton had the most chic-ness though at her show, who, in an “ode to sun worship”, saw the summertime as something to embrace, not something to beat us down and turn us into SPF health fanatics. Refreshing to say least, and what’s more refreshing was the sunglasses, designed by Fulton in collaboration with Cutler and Gross, which should be sought-after in no time at all.
But back to the all-important collection, we got the usual treatment from Fulton, the retro nostalgia, pretty embellishments, feminine fancies and we couldn’t have asked for anymore really, because in hindsight it already made AW14 look second-rate. If possible. There was however, a touch of folkloric whimsy for SS15, working particularly well with the A-Line dresses and as trims on almost anything Holly could think to embellish. The elegance of her colour schemes are always rooted in a summer sprightliness but this collection was saturated with much deeper tones, layers and perspectives, not just in the clothing, but in the designers future, for which she’s certainly found a good home in London Town.
