NYFW SS15: Baja East

With their SS15 Baja East line  launched at a beautifully staged inaugural runway show, the co-founders Scott Stundenberg and John Targon tell us a story through their garments grounded in “loose luxury”, being true to their philosophy which indicates that dressing is about comfort and confidence and not gender blurring the lines between men and women.

The well-made but simultaneously laid-back pieces are wearable and easily shared between Baja boys and girls, taking an abisexual approach to everyday dressing, where west coast east meets aggressive city cool. As Studenberg said, “We wanted to let clothes to speak for themselves.”

This season vibe is Nomadic Athletica and the unisex  and newly established line named after the classic Mexican baja, is once bohemian, beachy and urban crafted by signature cashmere jacquards, buttery calfskin and handwoven Balinese blankets. “Effortless tailoring” as Targon called it, includes luxe loungewear, boxing pants, moto vests, caftans, sweaters, cutoffs, and bra tops in bird and ikat patterns, and antique Balinese ceremonial skirts which were repurposed into long cape dresses and cloaks. Athletic sportswear in silk and charmeuse are their wardrobe staples.

Seaside in topaz, marine, and capri to New Neutrals in the desert – salty, sandy and pure, metallics and shiny garments make Baja East Spring collection a unique palette of easy combined colors, simplicity and coziness.
