A TECHNICOLOUR dream was played out in the New York courthouse for the Sies Marjan SS20 NYFW womenswear show. Sander Lak, the Dutch designer and founder of the 2016 luxe label, wove a fashion fairy-tale in bold colours, rich textures and sophisticated cuts.
Between the marble columns of the courthouse, flashes of light from the silken gowns, vinyl skirts and cross effect coats could be glimpsed in a luxurious palette of navy blue, burgundy, teal and saffron yellow. Like a regency painting the models glided down the curving staircases, exuding a timeless and serene elegance, which harmonised gracefully with the courthouse’s ochre interiors.
Makeup was minimal and fresh faces were paired with a soft blush pink on the cheekbones and outer corner of the eyes, or emboldened with a red lip.
Accessories were also kept simple with limited jewellery in the form of gold hooped earrings. The occasional bag could be seen thrown over a shoulder or two – cross-bodied and roomy.
The overall atmosphere of the Sies Marjan SS20 show was like a party you wish you could be invited to, finishing with falling confetti in the shimmering blues, reds and greens of the collection.
