UTILITARIANISM was a resounding feature of the Hermès SS20 collection for PFW. Strong, more masculine silhouettes were reinforced with practical buckles and fashioned from robust leather.
It was always a given that creative director, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, would incorporate the Hermès signature material, leather, into her collection. However, this traditional element was revitalised using contrasting stitching, buckles and straps, creating modern day outerwear for city dwellers.
Earthy tones in moss green, burnt umber and a rich cacao bean colour offered a marked contrast to the lighter, brighter palette which a lot of other houses have chosen for the next summer season. The dark and deep colours were certainly alluring and could be worn all year long – perhaps a welcome solution to cross seasonal dressing?
Accessorised with knotted, rope sandals and boxy, leather handheld bags, the overall looks were chic but powerful, carrying with them a sense of authority. Hair was kept sleek and side parted, contributing further to this confident aesthetic.
