Pieter Mulier brings an Alaïa attitude to the Opéra De Paris


BRIDGING the void between runway and stage, Alaïa have designed the costumes for the very first ballet at the Paris Opera envisioned by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, Pit.

Alumni from the Batsheva Dance Company, Jene Smith and Schraiber approached the Maison directly with a discerning appreciation for the work of current creative director, Pieter Mulier.

Considering not just the house’s history of design, but also Mulier’s fondness for body conscious aesthetics, the marriage seems like a match made in heaven. 

Focusing on the free movement of the dancers as inspiration for his work, supple armours that match the silhouettes of the dancers and the curves of their bodies. Much like what we say on an Alaïa runway, the clothing enhances the wearer’s body, and adds to the kinetic sensuality of the ballet itself.
