Valentino becomes the latest luxury fashion house to go fur-free

VALENTINO has announced the Italian luxury fashion house will be completely fur free starting in 2022, in line with the aim to redefine its structure. The Milan-based Valentino Polar fur company – which Valentino has helmed since 2018 – will cease production at the end of 2021.

Valentino is striving for a more sustainable and ethically conscious business model, following a multitude of fashion houses who have renounced the use of real fur in recent years. The house is pursuing viable, alternative materials, with the last collection to include fur in the Fall/Winter 2021-22 season.

All activities related to the REDValentino, Valentino’s sisterline, will be terminated from 2024, allowing the revisions Valentino has commenced to reverberate across the whole company.

Speaking on the new strategies, Jacopo Venturini, CEO of Valentino commented, “Maison de Couture for us means creativity, uniqueness, intimacy and an inclusive mindset. The fur-free stance is perfectly in-line with the values of our company. We are moving full-steam ahead in the research for alternative materials in view of a greater attention to the environment for the upcoming collections.”
