IF you’re anything like me, a manicure is always something to look forward to on the calendar. Not only is it the perfect opportunity to rethink seasonal colour palettes (Autumn has me especially excited for terracottas, deep reds and mauves) but it’s one of the few moments to take a mental breather. Or at least, it should be.
But more often than not, UK-based beauty site Treatwell reports this is not the case. In fact, only 34 per cent of manicure customers say they actually take this time to switch off. While we all know that 2019 is the year of self-care, 74 per cent of us report struggling to find those all important moments to relax. And even when we visit the nail salon, we’re find ourselves preoccupied in keeping everyone else happy. 60 per cent of us feel obligated to chat to our nail technicians and 89 per cent refuse to pop on headphones out of fear of coming across as rude.
Treatwell Mindful Mani Campaign
Thankfully, this is all coming to an end. With Treatwell’s Mindful Mani campaign, expect to leave a manicure feeling as beautiful on the inside as your nails do. Partnering up with 100 salons across the UK and providing them with mindful toolkits, Treatwell is encouraging customers to take back this hour in the name of self-care. Whether you’re booking one in during a lunch break, before/after a busy day at work or on the weekend, the Mindful Mani campaign seeks to help you take a break from life’s hustle and bustle.
Treatwell is also partnering up with podcaster Adrienne LDN on an episode of Power Hour, which is available on Spotify from today. Tune in during your manicure to hear panelists like Callie Thorpe chat mindfulness, well-being and the importance of self-care. If podcasts aren’t your cup of tea, the beauty company has also unveiled a host of mood-boosting playlists and interesting blog posts to help you relax at the nail salon.
Treatwell Mindful Mani Campaign
Unfortunately, we can’t always count on a manicure being the only time we can relax. In those long stretches when it seems like life passing you Suzy Reading (the registered psychologist and self-care expert whose research surrounds the campaign) advises we try our hardest to take advantage of the small moments.
“It is lovely to take a whole hour out of our day but we can experience great benefits from as little as a minute! Start by dotting your day with tiny mini moments of nourishment and you will soon notice the cumulative effects,” she said.
So if 2019 is the year of self-care, let’s make sure we finish in that spirit to begin 2020 feeling (and looking) fabulous.
