IT WAS Disney gone rogue at the Philipp Plein show. Located at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, the show was a spectacle to say the least – actually, we expected nothing less from the extravagant designer. Before the models debuted his spring collection, burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese opened the show doing what she does best in a huge martini glass.
After establishing the overall theme of the show, rapper, Future, set the soundtrack as the show started. The colour palette was simple, white, black and silver and a lot of denim and leather. Plein stuck to his familiar graphic t-shirts on which were Disney’s Cinderella – bound and gagged – with the phrase Good Gone Bad, very NSFW.
Monogramed trainers, chokers and backpacks were also seen, as well as quilted leather jackets. Embellished flowers, sequinned Bambi characters, black and white corset and hoops, similar to the ones usually found under ballgowns, were also seen over the garments.
Philipp Plein is always one for breaking and bending the rules and his SS18 collection was no different.
