Miuccia Prada’s show for Miu Miu presented models as little girls playing dress up in their grandmother‘s closet as they dressed in kitschy gear which combined both grandmother’s retro wardrobe gathered over the years including her furs, 1940s purses and big sunglasses, and little girl’s charming staples like tiaras and a tutu fit for princesses that most girls aspire to be.
Mesh dresses with puffy sleeves and frills were worn over 1940s tartan pencil skirts or tailored trousers with tucked in prim chequered shirts and cardigans or mesh polo shirts. Tea dresses or long frilled silk dresses resembling night gowns were paired with shirts, feather necklaces and furs. It was all a little bit Margot Tenenbaum-esque.
Margot’s dark depressing nature was reminded in the dark romance atmosphere of the show as the models resembled more the Goth kind of princesses rather than the happy Disney kind with black cherry lips and a dab of dead-like purple in the centre.
This was all wrapped up in patterned coats and leather jackets and accompanied by lace-up boots with striped socks poking out and stilettos or ballet shoes with black ribbons wrapped around the ankles as a lot of little girls want to be also ballet dancers.
