THERE’s always been something electric about Chotto Matte, and the Soho flagship has reignited that energy with its bold new menu, a celebration of the vibrant flavours and creativity that made the restaurant iconic.
Upstairs from the main bar, the space hums with atmosphere, warm wooden textures, an open kitchen alive with fire and rhythm, and a buzzy, cosmopolitan crowd. We ordered from the Signature Menu, the perfect way to explore the reimagined Nikkei dishes crafted by Executive Chef Jordan Sclare and Founder Kurt Zdesar.

The evening began with the Truffled Tuna Tostadas, crisp, fragrant, and elevated by the richness of truffle. Next came the Yellowtail “Nikkei Sashimi”, a standout of the night: delicate slices dressed with cherry tomatoes, jalapeño, coriander and yuzu truffle soy, a perfect balance of spice and citrus.
The Pollo Peruano followed, a whole baby chicken grilled over the robata, infused with coriander, topped with bright pomegranate, and scattered with crunchy canchas. Juicy, smoky, and full of character, it was the ultimate sharing dish.

To accompany it all, I couldn’t resist the Matcha Pisco Sour, a stunning blend of Barsol Pisco, matcha, lime, yuzu and egg white. Silky, vibrant and gently aromatic, it was the perfect bridge between the Peruvian and Japanese worlds that define Chotto Matte’s spirit.
We finished with the Chef’s Dessert Selection, a beautiful finale: Mochi Ice Cream in mango, coconut and green tea; a delicate Matcha Crêpe Cake; a tangy Passion Fruit Crème Brûlée; and indulgent Biscoff ice cream, each bite as balanced as it was indulgent.
Chotto Matte’s refreshed menu delivers forward creativity in all the right ways. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a first-time visitor, it’s the kind of dining experience that lingers with you long after the last bite.
