Bvlgari and Mary Katrantzou introduce the Calla Collection

IN HER debut collection as the Creative Director of Leather Goods and Accessories for Bvlgari, Mary Katrantzou completely reimagines Bvlgari’s profound Roman heritage with a lovely signature motif – the ‘Calla’.

Replicating the spirit from the ancient mosaics of the Terme di Caracalla, Katrantzou’s designs add a breath of flare to Bvlgari’s collection through her pertinent devotion and creativity. Designing ornate patterns, along with her vast imagination, Bvlgari’s legacy of high Roman jewellery is honoured even further.

The Terme di Caracalla, being one of the esteemed seven wonders of ancient Rome, details opulent fan-shaped mosaics with a plethora of dazzling jewel tones. Katrantzou reflects on her process of imaging the piece, stating, “I was inspired by the intricate mosaics… a fragment of Ancient Rome that formed the inspiration for the now iconic Bvlgari ‘Divas’ Dream’ collection”.

The Calla motif is a sensuously curving fan that amalgamates the dazzling symbols of ancient Rome, such as the ginkgo leaf, which represents strength, and the Calla lily, a perennial emblem of both purity and beauty.

Another piece is the ‘Ginkgo’ clutch, made to accentuate the Calla motif in the utmost purity. “The ‘Calla’ has infinite interpretations—but ‘all roads lead to’… Bvlgari,” says Katrantzou.

With Katrantzou as the creative director, Bvlgari’s collection hones deeply rooted connection to its Roman heritage while still evolving into new ideas of both beauty and ingenuity.
