TRADING the beautiful game for an intense chess stand-off are football royalty Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in Louis Vuitton’s latest brand campaign, Victory Is a State of Mind.
Photographed by the renowned Annie Leibovitz, the two icons battle it out on a different kind of field, the monogram design of a Louis Vuitton Damier attaché case. The concept for the campaign was dreamed up by Antoine Arnault, observing the game by Messi and Ronaldo mirroring the exact set up by Bruce Pandolfini, the Queen’s Gambit expert consultant, where in this case, neither star can win the game.
Louis Vuitton Brand Campaign – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
Casting back to 2010, Leibovitz’s previous Louis Vuitton campaigns have also featured other football legends like Maradona, Pele, and Zidane. And with the World Cup now in full swing, this seems to have been not only an apt but also an expert choice in campaign decisions.
Already, since its release on 19 November, the post has surfaced as the most-liked image ever for Louis Vuitton’s social media platform, with over 70M likes in total, accumulating on Ronaldo’s account alone a soaring 38M likes and on Messi’s 28M. Whether a fan of football or not, no one was disappointed to see a pair of their favourite players in excelling off the pitch as much as they are on.
