Glass indulges in the Mediterranean Sun in Costa Smeralda

KNOWN in English as the Emerald Coast, Costa Smeralda is an Italian gem located in a luxury corner of northeast Sardinia, where the sparkling shore is filled with white sandy coves, glamorous resorts and super-yachts.

Spiaggia La Celvia

As I arrive at my destination, I learn that at the heart and soul of Costa Smeralda is Porto Cervo, a unique location deeply bonded to nature, surrounded by pastel buildings, overlooking the glamorous Piazzetta of Porto Cervo and its exclusive Marina.

While strolling through the lively streets, I am enticed by the vibrant atmosphere, encircled by luxury boutiques and restaurants – it’s hard to believe this place is only a few hours away from London.

Hotel Cervo Exterior

I am staying at Cervo Hotel, within easy reach of the square yet tucked away from all the excitement, making it an ideal retreat.

As I am welcomed by the front of house and shown to my room, all I can see is pink stone and wind-sculpted architecture. The style continues into my room, which is decorated with terracotta tiles and traditional Sardinian design.

The hotel also boasts an outdoor pool and an internal courtyard where you are able to enjoy breakfast. Cervo Hotel is just one of the many resorts of The Luxury Collection owned by Smeralda Holding Company.

Hotel Cala di Volpe Exterior

Perched on the dazzling coastline itself, with its clear turquoise water and what seems like eternal sunshine, is the iconic Hotel Cala di Volpe. As enchanting as it is magnificent, it certainly is a sight to behold and I’m not surprised that it is recognised internationally.

Designed in the 1960s by Jacques Couëlle, the hotel has been recently reinterpreted with new rooms and restaurants while preserving its majestic feel.

The Atrium Bar, in particular, is a great space to relax in, where I am able to enjoy a refreshing watermelon juice to cool down from the midday heat and take in the glorious views overlooking the yachts anchored out in the bay.

In celebration of the beloved hotel’s 60th anniversary, Assouline published a brand new book Cala di Volpe, a beautiful collection of photos looking back over its rich history and grand legacy.

A presentation takes place at the waterfront in Porto Cervo, following an extravagant gala dinner at Cala di Volpe’s own restaurant, Le Grand, where we are spoilt with delicious local and international specialties and rich wines – a truly magical night.

Along with its stunning hotels, this dazzling stretch of coast is home to beachfront restaurants and clubs. My favourite is Matsuhisa Beach.

Our journey starts off at Hotel Cala di Volpe, from there we are whisked away by boat to a restaurant situated on the hotel’s private beach. Overlooking white sands and inviting crystal waters, this is an ideal setting for a lazy lunch.

Once we are settled, we sip on ice cold Italian wine before we tuck into a selection of Nobu-style Japanese cuisine.

For a timeless vacation full of great memories, Costa Smeralda is one to have on your list. As a place to immerse yourself in glamour and buzz while soaking up true Italian culture, Sardinia’s Emerald Coast knows how to spoil a guest and make them wish they stayed longer.
