WITH THIS year’s Halloween spectacle just around the corner, JW Anderson releases their AW22 Carrie capsule collection right in time for fashion’s most bizarre season.
Inspired by the iconic yet terrifying MGM classic, Carrie, released in 1976 and directed by Brian De Palma, JW Anderson sends shivers down all our spines with this womenswear adaptation of Stephen King’s novel: “If you’ve got a taste for terror… Take Carrie to the prom.”

Although bloodied prom dresses aren’t on the table for this collection, graphic images of the American supernatural horror film are displayed over tracksuits, puffer jackets, t-shirts, and printed co-ords instead – perfect for this autumnal, dark time of year.
The cult cinema classic has been a favourite in Halloween costumes over the years and is a great example of how fashion mixed with horror can really make you scream… with desire. Creative director Jonathan Anderson was most inspired by the leading protagonist Carrie White, played by Sissy Spacek, who rages upon her high-school bullies during their prom.

The capsule was first introduced during their Women’s AW22 presentation in February this year, through a series of images featuring actress Hari Nef, captured by photographer Juergen Teller. Used as billboards and mounted on vans to travel the streets of Milan during fashion week, Anderson blew the public away with a reminder that Halloween had come early this year. With a shuddering presentation, the images were then shot again this time but by Thomas Lohr for the official release using British model Lily McNenamy.

MGM has been the home for an array of sought-after cult cinematography horror classics for many years – other honourable mentions go to Killer Klowns from Outer Space, a 1988 sci-fi/horror icon, The Silence of the Lambs, a deeply twisted 1991 hit, and the scream-worthy Poltergeist and Candyman franchises.
Although taken from a gore-core memory, the Carrie capsule collection is incredibly chic and is set to be a hit this spooky season.
