CHRISTOPHER Kane looked inward for this London Fashion Week as the brand explored earth, nature and outer space. Aptly named Ecosexual, the collection celebrates people who love nature, reflected by the blown up images of hyper-real flowers and meadows that illuminated the backdrop of the show space, which also mirror some of the main prints on the runway.
Floral  prints and eyelet white dresses capture the delicate side of nature,  while other looks fuse the outdoors with elements of subtle seduction – black cage dresses pinned together by studs, a bust hugging slip,  a mini semi-sheer lace dress all underline the sensual force of Kane’s inspiration.
Signature of Kane, his neon silk dresses paraded the runway, punctuated with silver baubles, and PVC cut-outs. Showing that his love for nature extends past our planet, galaxy printed dresses and jackets featured sparkling images of the moon and the stars, meanwhile sweatshirts were decorated with Star Wars-styled italic.
In line with our times, Kane does not shy away from the sustainability question while representing nature and all its beauty, having left Kering, Kane has spoken of his wishes to continue the sustainability practices he learned while at the conglomerate. As Kane makes changes to improve the brand’s sustainability, one can hope this will bring a greater awareness to one of the most impertinent discussions of the fashion industry.
