A MILLENIAL show from a classic brand, the Dolce & Gabbana SS18 collection drew upon vibrant colours and loud patterns, while drawing in the young lovers of social media. Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews, McFly’s Dougie Poynter, YouTube’s Marcus Butler and Braison Cyrus were among the crowd of models. Yet, these familiar faces from the realms of social media and popular culture did not distract from the array of clothing presented.
Bright oranges, mustard yellows and subtle peaches were the chosen palette – sometimes effective, sometimes garish. Silk is another regularity throughout the show, as well as playing cards, floral patterns, leopard print and the odd crown. It seems Dolce & Gabbana are most obviously themselves with hints of their own branding, a shoe with their logo here or a D&G belt there.
There was also a fun mixture of casual, bomber-style jackets and hoodies alongside silk suits varying from black to blue. A possible suggestion towards the brand’s roots, yet embracing a younger generation, all while commenting on our current political climate. A lot to take on in one collection? Possibly why it appears so eclectic.
