Milan Menswear SS15: Prada

At Prada this season, the exposed stitch ensembles signaled that there was to be no deception, it was Prada laid bare. As always. Of course Prada felt compelled to tick all of the unisex boxes for “universal” cool in our modern world, and this was all done with mostly genderless, timeless, and whatever else less wear, all the whilst brimming with boyish intellect.

We had the staple Prada shapes – boxy immaculate leathers, crisp patterns and first-class jean, which all looked as pretty as a peach, but more than that each piece possessed Prada’s typically Milanese insouciant luxury qualities. The jeans became a much belaboured topic, and even the heavily stitched suits took on the guise of jeans as well, regardless of SS15’s firmly rooted bourgeois pastiche. Prada has made its bed very suitably for fashion in 2014 and it’s more than happy to lie in it.

In the end, Svengali sovereign Miuccia knows that every time she makes a remark that follows something along the lines of “it feels instinctively right to translate the same idea for both genders”, she is appeasing the many, many Prada-heads out there.
