One prominent feature of Peter Som’s SS15 collection was a fabulously original forest green and white rose print pattern. There was something eerily mythic and anthropomorphic about the roses, twisted and oriented so close together, as if trapped beautifully forlorn within the garments’ confines.
Other looks included translucent top coats functioning as coverups for rose printed swimwear; a Kelly green duster tied loosely around the waist of a minidress, contrasting lengths transforming a simple summer dress to a look almost princely; stripes of assorted colors (Kelly green, off white, rose, deep navy) lay over stripes, broad versus narrow, vertical versus horizontal, all oxymoronically complementary; doily appliquéd mesh bibs bound at the waist in fierce yet delicate repose; pants, girlish short flare skirts, and a floor length, V-neck gown constructed of sophisticated, floral, islander-inspired prints of red-orange, forest green and white against stark black fabric; and, last but not least, our favourite look of the collection — a Bowie-esque brilliant golden lamé short suit with a high collar and lightweight, thigh length blazer-cut coat.
Overall, the collection was very “Hamptons meets Thailand’s shore”. Maritime stripes worked in tandem with Thai-like ties and drapery for a cool, refreshing feel.
