The key to Vivienne Westwood’s Spring 2014 Ready to Wear collection may well have been on Dame Vivienne’s own head: a knit cap emblazoned “CHAOS.” Her chaos, this time, appeared to be in a muddy wood. Perhaps they were wood nymphs, perhaps medieval travelers, or perhaps club kids. Mesh, leather, jersey, and tulle all built the mostly individual pieces.
Small pockets of mini collections came through. Dramatic medieval references launched the show. Exaggeratedly shouldered jackets topped a set of skirt, shorts, and trousers. Pale mesh barely wrapped over undergarments, hinting at, but not making, dresses. Dyed leather lace gave rockers in lace a new edge. Glee, intensity, and strength shone through, and the show ended with a warrior: asymmetrically folded skirts belted on the hips by a punk tartan belt.
