Dame Vivienne Westwood’s AW 14 collection featured on day two of Milan’s menswear shows revealed a surprisingly “tame” collection. Models that resembled Barbie’s boyfriend Ken dolls took us through a series of different looks, leaving more exciting and extravagant pieces until the very end of the show.

With an autumn palette consisting of mainly deep plums, oranges and blues, most outfits showcased a layering of pieces that either aimed to be a sporty, casual or formal look. Combinations were of a solid coloured nature, however there was plenty of texture and pattern seen in many pieces so characteristic of the British native’s designer style. Notable pieces included a biker-inspired outfit made in a synthetic black fabric, colourful all-over patterned pieces tucked into slim-fit lace-up boots, solid coloured layered suits and casual tops paired with slim-fitting leggings.

Known for her rebellious and punk-influenced style, Westwood’s belief about design includes the notion that fashion is an amalgamation and bartering of ideas between France and England. She once said, “On the English side we have tailoring and an easy charm, on the French side that solidity of design and proportion that comes from never being satisfied because something can always be done to make it better, more refined.”
