FOR Marni’s PF21 collection, Francesco Risso shifted his usual experimental, ornate approach to design – melding flashy hues with flamboyant prints – to adopt a more refined style. And for this season it appears Risso has been struck by a romantic fever, constructing each design with soft, subtle fabrics, wrapped tenderly around the wearer in a warm embrace.
When devising this collection, Risso embarked on a quest to decipher what romance appeared like amid a global pandemic, which has formed an invisible barrier between human touch. Risso answered that question with a sensitive collection, crafting fluid designs that naturally fade into the silhouette of the body.
Marni Assumed a more demure colour palette, adorned on oversized tailored jackets, a smooth leather belted jumpsuit and an asymmetrical dress that coils around the body, embellished with twinkling copper ruffles. And for those who are not ready to depart the comfort of working from home and joining zoom calls in their pyjamas, the collection features checked coats that unbutton into blankets.
Flickers of vibrant print are also incorporated, with large white and green circles printed onto a crimson shirt, along with elegant tulips weaving across a dress.
The accompanying accessories featured a myriad of varying handbag styles, with the Trunk Soft leather handbag presented in army green and a dusty mustard hue tone.
Knee-high boots are decorated with two zips encircling the length of the boots, while high heeled pumps were coated in textured check fabric reflecting the comfy, yet classical spirit of the collection.
