Sustainable designer Bethany Williams wins fashion award

THE British Fashion Council has announced that sustainable fashion designer Bethany Williams has won the 2021 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. The cash prize of £200,000, alongside bespoke mentoring will allow the winning designer to evolve their business, while retaining an environmentally conscious ethos.

First established in 2008, the fund is designed to nurture and guide designers towards positive growth. Bethany Williams was shortlisted against Supriya Lele, Halpern, Richard Malone and Alighieri for the fund, amongst many other notable names.

Each designer had to present their collection and business plan to a panel of judges that included Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of The British Fashion Council, Model Adut Akech and Natalie Kingham, Global Fashion Officer of MatchesFashion.

Speaking of the competition, Caroline Rush commented: “Congratulations to Bethany Williams on receiving this year’s BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. Bethany’s brand is a real example of a sustainable and conscious business, and as a designer, she is constantly finding new innovative design solutions to sustainability.”
