Glass Travel is inspired by these two trailblazing women on International Women’s Day (8 March)

FOR International Women’s Day 2021, which the world celebrates every year on March 8, Glass Travel team shines a light on two women who inspire us greatly with their initiatives, careers and ventures.

Beverly Joubert

World-renowned Beverly Joubert is an acclaimed filmmaker, photographer, and a National Geographic Explorer as well as the co-founder of  Great Plains Conservation.

She is entirely self-taught and together with her husband, has been awarded multiple accolades  for their work on over 40 films, including Emmy Awards and the Presidential Order of Merit in Botswana. The couple has also collaborated on and published 12 books and essays.

Apart from her creative ventures, Beverly has co-founded Great Plains Foundation,  a unique conservation tourism company built around bespoke, caring, meaningful and considerate values.

Their conservation programmes have reached great success by also helping local communities, as well as preserving flora and fauna, which Beverly is especially passionate about. Beverly and her husband have also established the Big Cats Initiative and  Project Ranger .

Lately, Beverly has been heavily involved with the Solar Mamas initiative, which took nine Botswanan women from rural communities to India for six months in order to be trained in solar engineering. These Solar Mamas, upon their return to Botswana, shared their knowledge and installed solar plants as well as business to provide a source of empowerment and to generate income.

Marie Soliman is the founder and creative director of Bergman Design House and Njord by Bergman. This award-winning designer has over 16 years of design experience in the hospitality, residential, and commercial sectors.  marie soleman

As a visual artist and designer, Marie Soliman has worked on multiple globally recognised projects all around the planet such as The Other House hotels in South Kensington and Covent Garden, BXR and We11 in London, NOR hotel in Norway, as well as the Eagle Island Lodge in Botswana, to just name a few.

Marie has been named a “chameleon of design”, and rightfully so, as her creative vision is based on her inspirations from adventurous souls as well as trying to create fantastic and engaging experiences. The designer is focused on providing innovative ideas to her projects while embracing the chaos of the creation process.

For 2022, Marie has several exciting projects that will be opening its doors soon including the Lund Collection in Cotswolds, BXR in Bishops Gate, the speakeasy bar Laowai in Vancouver, in addition to  floating hotels and private superyachts, all channelled  through her design studio Njord by Bergman Design House.
