TORY Burch took a world tour yesterday in the heart of Manhattan. Specifically: Italy, Greece, Morocco and Spain. How so? Through the unveiling of her SS19 collection. Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian’s Design Museum served as the setting for her world of wanderlust – a total green terrace takeover with lemon trees everywhere in sight. Burch was bringing a tropical tone to the city that never sleeps, and all watching were in favour of it.
That sense of summer pleasure began with sartorial codes fit for sea. Take the opening look – a cream knit with a juxtaposing dark hued neckline screaming only one thing: sailor alert. And with it, Burch communicated her desire for the voyage out. What followed? A class of looks set on predominantly neutral colours – clearly catering to the spring and summer seasons. Key threads included crisp shirting, nautical striping and embroidered edgings. Not to mention the concluding trio of tulle dresses – set against hues of Burch’s favoured navy and pink.
Then came the burst. A flood of patterns graced the terraced setting – a proclaimed code of Burch’s brand. Those unveiled yesterday were particularly inspired by the past travels of her parents, as informed in her show notes. Familial fondness ran through to structure too – silhouettes carried a constant ease of bohemianism, with elegant layering defining a collection of casual travel attire. As for the materials, woven proved a winner. It was injected with sufficient amount through hats and shoes, emitting a sense of provincial pleasure amidst the planted terrace setting.
And As far as Burch is concerned, Spring Summer 2019 is set to be rather adventurous. Our advice – book your future summer getaway now, and start planning outfits from her blossoming collection.
