MICHAEL Kors is focusing on the simpler pleasures of life. Looking into love, art and his home of New York City, the American designer decided to create an urban romance for his spring-summer 2022 collection. From the Tavern on the Green in Central Park the voice of Broadway’s Hamilton, Ariana DeBose echoed through the trees setting the scene for Kors’ return to an audience.

“It’s a special thrill to celebrate the resilience and rebirth of the city and the fashion industry with a live runway show”, explained the designer. “This collection pays homage to everything I love about spring in the city – the energy, the mix of people, the romance and laid-back glamour.”

With love at the core of this collection, the charity God’s Love We Deliver is weaved into the seams of the clothes. The cause looks at treating hunger and malnutrition in those affected by HIV/ AIDS and other serious illnesses by supplying meals to those unable to provide food for themselves in the city – currently giving out an estimated 10,000 meals a day.

With this being a foundation close to Kors’ heart, within the collection is a special black cashmere jumper with the logo in red that will have all its proceeds from the sale going directly to God’s Love We Deliver.
“I first started working with them in the last 1980s when AIDS was decimating NYC, and the design community in particular. Since then, I’ve seen how they’ve been there for the city during the toughest moments, showing compassion and delivering food to people in need. That simple act of bringing someone a hot plate of food- that’s love.”

Beyond the charitable side of this collection is a return to more reformed, conservative silhouettes that define the waist, showcase the collarbone and emphasis femininity.
However, bare midriffs, short shorts and relaxed balmacaan trenches offer a youthful element to this sleek offering, no overcomplicated patterns, block colours and the occasional gingham and ocelot print creates the blueprint for contemporary city clothing – less sex in the city and more chic in the city.

If it is uncomplicated pleasures we are returning to with Kors then this collection proves that less really can be more.
