Channelling a masculine blue collar vibe, Wang displayed his SS16 collection with a consistent uniform aesthetic. Introducing fashions take on manual work ensembles, boiler suits and black dungarees were matched with oversized leather bags, adding a stylish twist to work wear.
A neutral colour palette of dark shades with hints of olive and beige broke up the bland display of black, and combined with opposing choice of materials, gave the collection a chic finish. Wang paired sateen with suede and leather to add dimension to the clothes, choosing to use a range of fabrics to separate the uniform look.
The structure of garments mostly consisted of two-piece fitted outfits, which added to the masculine appearance. Wang used a combination of wide leg shorts and straight cut trousers to give the collection a touch of variety. The use of badges on jumpers and jackets gave a military edge which was emphasised with buttoned up shirts and oversized outerwear.
Breaking away from typical spring design, the collection had an overwhelming sense of manual work wear which fit in well with the masculine theme. Wang’s choice of an autumnal colour scheme has challenged the concept of seasonal fashion, while his play on traditional men’s clothing is a refreshing change from the feminine looks as seen on other shows.
