This week in Couture, Gaultier introduced a collection that is capable of making the late, great and much-lamentedDavid Bowie rise from the dead and sing with joy some of his 1980s output. It was a collection of big hair, intense colours, and some on-point cat-eyes.

Gaultier seemed to be channelling a mix of his costumes in the 5th Element while also adding a dash of Blade Runner. The clothing had something of a futuristic edge and the same time keeping a 1980s rock chic vibe. The collection included some modestly coloured pantsuits, daring high-waisted trousers with only a pair of braces covering the model’s upper torso, and a number of waist-defining under-bust corsets.
The show felt like an 80s rock concert and would easily slip its way into any Disney villain’s closet but it still felt like fashion. It was fun, edgy, bold and of course beautiful to watch. Yet again, Gaultier has the future of the fashion world in the palm of his hands.
