FEMININE and floaty, the SS18 Ready-to-Wear Mansur Gavriel collection captured the brands original aesthetic; easy, natural, and incredibly chic. Saturated stripes, pretty pastels, and modern monochrome exuded elegance. Set in Spring Studios, a popular destination for NYFW, the show combined classic luxury with contemporary style. Dusty Springfield and Roy Orbison tracks serenaded the audience, skillfully setting the romantic and mellow tone.
Designers Floriana Gavriel and Rachel Mansur have built an impressive accessories empire in the six short years since they launched Mansur Gavriel and their SS18 show paid homage to this. Presenting their first collection of clothing last season, this year’s collection progressed with a similar theme; minimalist and with a colour palette that radiates nature. The duo has always had a clear-cut, practical approach to design and their SS18 show reinforced that.
Opening the show in a white tone and gently transcending into warm hues of orange and brown, the collection presented items that were versatile and could be worn to any occasion. Working upon their iconic Italian produced items and quality craftsmanship the collection featured beautiful Italian silk organza, woolen fabrics and silk chiffon.
Although the bright yellow bag and beehive hat were stand-out pieces that may have been a hint to more brave choices to come from the design house the rest of the collection’s styling was strategic. Pale blue bags were paired with pale blue suits, classic gingham prints were paired with matching accessories, and leather bags complimented leather shoes. Relaxed tailoring met modern fabrics when sheer chiffon shirts and dresses graced the runway. The overlay of light materials in a variety of similar shades and different fabrics gave structure to the ever so airy and flowing pieces.
The Mansur Gavriel SS18 collection is flexible and timeless. If their winning formula for bags and shoes is anything to go by we’re sure their additional venture into clothing will continue to be a best-selling hit.
