Darkly romantic and resolutely Latino was Ricardo Tisci’s Givenchy female archetype this season. The fashion pack waited in ardent anticipation to see what the designer would present for AW and he certainly didn’t disappoint.
Garments ran the gauntlet from delicately brocaded to distressed florals and furs gone awry, but all the while Tisci’s gothic chola vixen kept her cool. Interestingly enough, the pierced faces and hair slicked to forehead à la banjee girl realness contrasted with divine tension against the religious iconography and other soft designs.
When the collection really started progressing it was hard to know where to look, Tisci was on top form and each masterfully crafted ensemble packed a substantial punch. The fantastic peacock feather prints, to name just one element, weren’t overdone in the slightest but ripped through the catwalk with an animalistic fashion forward lastingness that is often missing in the contemporary style spectrum. Throughout, Tisci kept us on our toes right until the final few made their way out.
The beaded and gloriously bedecked gowns in deep sparkly red finally had more in common with all of the facial festoons and perhaps demonstrated the wisest move possible to really make this collection an iconic one.
